German Stoneware Salt Glazed Cobalt Figural Brewmaster Pitcher

Description

Rare example of an Absolutely spectacularly detailed  14.5” (36.8cm) German 19th Century Cobalt Salt Glazed Westerwald Figural Beer Pitcher. The ruff-necked, Blue-bearded Brewmaster’s lederhosen is inscribed with an old German poem:
“Trink Menschenkind
Feir mit Bedacht
Was gluecklich dich
Und froelich macht”
Meaning:
Drink Mankind, Celebrate with thought as it that which makes you lucky also makes you happy.
There are some minor firing cracks on the base and back of the neck (see pics), it is missing the lid and is in very good sound condition commensurate with age.
